September - Season of Creation
The Season of Creation is marked throughout the Christian world from 1st September to 4th October (the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi). Pope Francis took the name of Francis of Assisi when he became Pope. Our Pope believes that St Francis is the Saint whose example we should follow in our care for all creation.
In 2015 Pope Francis wrote a letter to all humanity called ‘Laudato Si’ to remind and encourage us to Love One another – no matter where in the world we live. And to protect and care for the earth so that everyone can share the good things that God has provided for us all.
In September 2024 we launched the Season of Creation in school on Friday 6th September. Each class focussed on a different aspect of Creation; eg, The Creation of the World, The Story of Noah, Rainbow Story to celebrate diversity, St Francis of Assisi and Pope Francis' letter Laudato Si. Also- in preparation for our Season of Creation Mass, we learnt a new hymn 'Laudato Si' and wrote our own Gathering hymn based on Pope Francis' Laudato Deum prayer.
On Tuesday 19th September 2024 we celebrated Mass with Fr David, parishioners and families to raise awareness of Laudato Si and to encourage each other to be more loving and caring towards others and our environment. The reading, psalm and Gospel of our Mass encouraged us:
- To see the suffering in the world today – amongst people and all creation.
- To realise our important role as children of God and stewards of the earth.
- To take action. Now is the time. The world needs our help and the more people who get involved – the better!
