Learn and Grow Together in Christ

Geography

Subject Leader: M. Haida

Introduction

We are lucky to have beautiful grounds which are being developed to explore and support our learning at St. Mary’s. We make use of our outdoor area as often as possible to support and enhance  our teaching and learning in geography. Geography allows us to think about how the world is changing, and how we, as humans, are impacting upon these changes. By the time we leave St. Mary’s, we are able to answer 'big questions' in geography and make links between all that we have learnt over our time at our school. We learn about human and physical geography of a wide variety of places, learn to read and use maps and are taken on a journey around the world through our time at St. Mary’s.

Intent

At St Mary’s, our geography curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and a deep understanding of the world and its people. We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to explore diverse places, cultures, and environments, while fostering respect, responsibility, and global awareness. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, children develop investigative and problem-solving skills, learn to interpret maps and data, and engage with topical issues such as sustainability and human impact. Our intent is to nurture informed, thoughtful citizens who can make responsible decisions about the world they live in.
